Our readers' tips - Gentle facial scrub
It is not an easy task to find a facial scrub that fits your skin type. For irritated skin or skin prone to inflammation, you certainly want to avoid using any harsh ingredients. The following facial exfoliant recipe was sent to us by our reader Dawn. Gentle facial scrub My mom realized commercial scrubs were irritating my skin as a teen and I had no real acne so she taught me this recipe to gently exfoliate without irritation. Ingredients 1/4 c. distilled water (now I just boiled our tap water - so that works too) 1 T honey 1/2 T lemon juice 1/4 cup wheat germ kernels. Preparation Combine the water, honey, and lemon juice and mix well then gradually stir in wheat germ. Gently massage into damp face then rinse with warm water, using a washcloth if necessary. Follow with a cider vinegar or witch hazel or other toner. I try to keep a small jar of this available for my daughter, too, who's now 10 and doesn't need much exfoliation so I use less wheat germ and sometimes substitute cold, previously brewed chamomile tea for the water. I love your site! Thanks for the great recipe Dawn! Wheat germ is often used in preparation of dry skin recipes either as kernel or in essential oil form, both are excellent. It is a good ingredient for acne treatment, too. Honey is so powerful that is used in any skin care recipe imaginable. It is an anti-inflammatory agent, meaning it prevents and clears out infection. It is also a potent antiseptic, leaving the skin cleansed. Lemon juice removes excess oil and helps reduce enlarged pores so the impurities can't penetrate. More facial exfoliant recipes.
