USE THIS CHART AS A GUIDE TO WHICH HERBS TO USE:
TO LIGHTEN HAIR: Mullein flowers OR Rhubarb root OR Privet leaves
TO DARKEN HAIR: Sage OR Ivy berries
TO REDDEN HAIR: Alkanet root OR Calendula OR red hibiscus OR Saffron
FOR BLACK HAIR: Elderberries OR Indigo leaves and henna in equal quantities.
FOR GREY HAIR: Hollyhock flowers (to remove yellow tones)OR sage
Once you made a selection, simmer 2 ounces of the selected herbs in 4 cups of water for 20 minutes, keeping the lid on the pan. Cool, strain, and pour through the hair, catching the rinse in a bowl. Repeat as many times as possible. Use an old towel to pat the hair dry, because some color will come off. These are progressive dyes so the more you use them, the stronger the effect. Good Luck! :D
