Post pregnancy skin

by Sarah
(Suva,Fiji)

Hi Nili,

My name is Sarah. I just had a baby few months ago and everything (my body) has changed (in a bad way). I have gained so much weight, my skin looks terrible, my hair look dead. Needless to say I am not happy with my outlook. I have lost some weight though. And guess what left? Stretch marks. They are everywhere and I have no idea how to get rid of them. My skin (face and the rest of the body) is completely dead. I am 23 years old and I already feel so old. Please help me. Give me some ideas.

Thank you

Sarah

Dear Sarah,

First of all, congratulations on your new baby! Second, don’t be so harsh on yourself! Your body has undergone a tremendous change and all the stretch marks and other symptoms you are experiencing are its way of dealing with the task of creating a baby. I gained over 50lbs during my pregnancy, and no, the effects were not pretty. What you can do is deal with what you have now.

The first thing I will address is hair. My hair post pregnancy was dry and brittle and what helped me, is using one of the natural hair care recipes. Now, by “dead” I suppose you mean dry and lifeless. Look at the link and you will find a few good moisturizing recipes that will help with this. Also, if you are not already, start taking Vitamin B complex, it is wonderful for skin and nails.

Stretch marks – they are very, very common. Try drinking plenty of water in order to hydrate the skin, use a good quality lotion or moisturizer or try making your own homemade stretch marks cream.

Face – make sure you exfoliate the face to get rid of the dead skin cells. Then, use one of the face mask recipes found on this site. Since you are dealing with “dead” skin, scroll down to the middle of the page and check out the nourishing masks for dry skin.

Enjoy your new baby!

I hope some of this helps,

Biljana, Admin
