OK, so I know it may seem trivial, but I was wondering: should I steam my face first and then exfoliate or vice versa?
No, not a trivial question at all! :)
Try starting it with a facial steam. This will open up the pores, soften the skin and loosen up the dead skin layer of the skin. You will then proceed with a scrub or exfoliate and when done, wash the face off with regular water.
Alternatively, if you are pressed for time and prior to exfoliation, wash the face with warm water and proceed with the peel.
The point of the steam is to prepare the skin for the exfoliation. Even when you use a facial steam, you are really trying to exfoliate with steam and sometimes, that is enough. Introducing a face scrub has all the extra benefits of removing old layers and exposing new ones.
I hope this helps,
