Tea tree oil toxicity

by Denise
(san francisco)

My question is about potential toxicity when using tea tree oil, and if I could be using too much. It's really working so I don't want to stop using it. How long can I continue to use this on my tinea versicolor? My dose is 1x per day straight tea tree oil as a spot treatment and 1x per day in salt scrub version all over.

Tea tree oil is an excellent fungicide, but what I would like to know is if you're using it on your own or a dermatologist has recommended it? The reason I am concerned is that while tea tree oil in its pure form (100%) is excellent short term, I personally would not continue using it as such for a long period of time unless it has been dilluted a bit with an inactive ingredient such as a carrier oil.

Please consult a dermatologist; tea tree oil can be toxic when the use is prolongued (evidence on animals, though I don't find this too naive).

I hope this helps,
