After years of sensitive skin, struggling with problem skin like acne or rosacea, or even deciding that you just don’t want to use chemicals on your skin anymore you’ve decided to take the step into natural skin care. Good for you! But do you know which natural ingredients you should use for your skin type?

Each skin type will need a different approach to skin care. The following is not an exhaustive list. However, it will guide you when shopping for natural skin care products for your skin type.

Please be aware that if you’re allergic to an ingredient (like strawberries, etc.) you will NOT want them in your skin care product.

All skin types may use several natural ingredients to good effect. These include:

Honey: Used in face cleansers, moisturizers, and masques. Honey is a great emollient. An emollient is a product that makes the skin feel softer and smoother while reduce cracking and irritation. It is also cleansing and an anti-bacterial.

Green Tea Extract: Used in face cleansers and toners. A powerful antioxidant that also soothes, Green Tea helps prevent free radical damage caused by sun exposure and pollution.

Although Normal Skin has fewer problems than other skin types, it does require maintenance. In addition, those who have normal skin may find that as they grow older their skin becomes drier.

The following natural ingredients should be included in any skin care product purchased to maintain normal skin:

Rose Distillate: Used in face cleansers. Stimulate circulation and aid in skin renewal.

Cucumber: Used in face cleansers, toners, and masques. Known for its astringent and soothing effects, cucumber extract has anti-inflammatory actions and skin tightening properties.

As mentioned previously, Combination Skin is the most common skin type. Maintenance of this skin type includes a combination of moisturizing and oil-fighting natural ingredients.

If you have combination skin, you will want skin care products that contain the following natural ingredients:

Rosemary Extract: Used in cleaners, toners, moisturizers, and masques. It cleanses and softens while also being an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

Witch Hazel: A natural skin toner and soothing agent.

Rosa Mosqueta (Rosehip) Oil: Used in moisturizers. A great emollient because it is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.

Drinking a lot of water every day will help improve the quality of your skin. This is actually true for all skin types but is particularly important for those with dry skin. This skin type also has a tendency to wrinkle sooner than other skin types.
