Dry, aging, sensitive skin that is breaking out
I am a 38 year old woman with dry skin that can also be very sensitive. It also breaks out at times with whiteheads, red pimples under the skin, and splotchy bumps. I only use natural skin care products (weleda, dr haushka, etc), but nothing seems to be helping any more. I feel that because my skin is so sensitive, and because I also have food allergies (dairy, nuts, wheat, seeds) that finding products that don't aggravate my skin seems extremely difficult. I am actually at a point where I feel afraid to put anything on my skin for fear that it will cause it to break out. I would like to start making my own products, but feel overwhelmed by the information. I want to keep my products simple, with as few ingredients as possible. I need a cleanser, toner, moisturizer and exfoliator. Please help!
Since your skin is prone to breakouts, it’s important that you use a good, yet gentle, face scrub. Mix equal amounts of baking soda and sugar then add a little water and make a paste. Rub this paste lightly all over your skin (avoid the eye area) and rinse off well. Your skin will look and feel incredible. Try using this scrub at least 3 times per week to exfoliate dead skin cells and keep pores clean. A great natural cleanser is Cetaphil which can be purchased in your local drug store. Cetaphil is pH balanced which can help re-normalize your skin and that will help reduce the breakouts. You can mix the face scrub mixture along with the Cetaphil and make a creamy paste to exfoliate and wash your face at the same time.
For a simple moisturizer with just one ingredient, try Emu oil. Emu oil protects the acid mantel which, when it’s not healthy, puts your skin at risk for sensitivity, breakouts, acne, psoriasis, eczema, and more. Don’t be afraid to use this oil, it won’t cause breakouts. Emu oil is the closest oil to your skin’s natural oil and it helps heal acne or inflamed skin. You can read more about Emu Oil here.
